Waist Management
On the battlefield once again with the all too familiar foe, food. To be more specific, junk food, sweets, high-carb foods like bread....Mmm...bread! As many of you know, Marzz and I embarked on a mission a few years back to eat better and try to shave off some of the weight we had put on in the precediing years. Well, like a tune up on a car or maintenance on a house, it's that time again.
Luckily this time we haven't let ourselves go off the rails too far this time, we've only gained a few pounds from what we were a few months back. The real difference this time is that we caught the warning signs that we were slipping, allowing too many "cheat days" and we consuming more and more carbs and sugars.
I'm sure it is no secret by now that many people participate in keto-friendly diets, which is generally a low-carb, high-protein diet to get your body to enter ketosis which helps burn off fat from your body. We are taking a slightly different approach by trying to follow a no sugar, no grain diet, also known as NSNG which I discovered while listening to Adam Carolla's podcast. Adam often has this nutritianist on his show by the name of Vinnie Tortorich who pioneers this approach.
Vinnie used to be a trainer for celebrities and I believe still does it part-time, but now he's more focused on spreading his knowledge of decades of experience in hopes that he can help people not just lose weight, but be healthier and live longer lives. Let me pause here, I am in no way associated or affilliated with either Adam Carolla or Vinnie Tortorich, although I wouldn't be against it. Having said that, I will still give a shout out, Vinnie has a good documentary called Fat: A Documentary which is available on Amazon Prime to watch right now, as of this posting.
Speaking of documentaries, let me just quickly mention a few others that I think are good and informative. There is one called That Sugar Documentary, and another called Carb-Loaded.
We have found some good websites with a few simple Google searches which has been nice to find various recipes so our meals feel fresh and not the same dishes every few days. They're relatively inexpensive, the proteins and vegetables can feel expensive when you buy a week's worth of food at once, but when you divide that out per meal, per person, it really is comparable to eating out, but the difference being that you know exactly what is in the food and during this Covid shut down, eating out is not enjoyable since here in California we're not allowed to eat indoors, only take-out and outdoor dining.
This is a marathon and not a sprint. Our plan is the make this our diet forever and not just until we reach a certain weight. It is also a slow and steady weight loss goal that we each have in mind. You don't want to lose too much too fast, that can cause other health problems. If we lost a couple of pounds a week for "x" amount of weeks, that would be great by us.
We've posted a few videos on our YouTube page of some meals and we'll post some more soon. Similar to my previous post about dieting and food, we also don't plan on missing out on certain things and hurting our quality of life by not ever eating sweet treats. No, instead, those will be fewer and farther between, but we will still eat them. What's the point in being healthy if you're completely miserable? No thanks! Living longer but not enjoying it is not the goal here. We want to live our lives to their fullest. Travel, explore, eat, learn and just soak up the human experience as best we can and this is just a tiny part of it.
We know there are a lot of diets out there, just like there have been for the past 60 years. We encourage you to speak with your doctor and research before you embark on a diet to make sure it is right for you and that you have the knowledge and realistic goals before starting this journey. Some may have zero interest in dieting and that is fine also, to each their own. This was our choice and we wanted to share it with you for both knowledge and for us to express our experiences for our own enjoyment.
Thank you to those who tune in to our YouTube channel and this blog. Sorry we're not more consistent! We appreciate your ongoing support.
