Don't Count Your Eggs Before They Hatch

As we approach the middle of May, 2020 in what can only be described as an unusual year thus far; filled with tragedy, hope, sadness, fear, optimism but ultimately I hope, ending with a renewed sense of patriotism.

Many things have been disrupted in peoples lives as this Coronavirus has swept our great nation. Lives have been lost, destroyed, altered for better or worse.

There are many adages that we use everyday, such as: "A penny saved, is a penny earned", or "One man's trash is another man's treasure", or one of my favorites, "the path to hell is paved with good intentions". There is one in particular that I was thinking about recently and I'll explain why in a moment, that adage is, "Don't count your eggs before they hatch".

I think back to February or even in to early March, before this damn pandemic really broke out and while I was still going to work everyday on the lot. Things felt a bit tense, people were really beginning to worry about their safety and the future of their jobs, especially productions. But I recall just taking all of it with a grain of salt and staying focused on my work. At that point in time, Marzz and I had not taken a vacation for a while, other than visiting our families for the holiday's. We had several things planned over the next few months. We had 3-day tickets to the History Channel convention, titled History Con which was to be held in Pasadena CA in early April. We also had a single day ticket to a Pinterest convention in March. Then in the second week of April I had purchased a pair of Dodgers tickets for Marzz and I to go watch the Cardinals and Dodgers square off and it was going to be a give away night, a Hello Kitty beanie which Marzz was really looking forward to.

All of those things have been canceled or postponed with no future date in sight. We also have a hotel reservation for Las Vegas where we were supposed to go see Aerosmith, that concert has been canceled but so far, as of today 4/12/20 the hotel is still active because there is a very slim chance that Vegas will be allowed to reopen by the end of May.

It all goes back to that adage, "Don't count your eggs before they hatch". We were very much looking forward to all of those things as one can imagine. We were disappointed when they were canceled and most of them we understand why. The point is, no matter how certain something seems, never rule out chance coming in and taking it away.

Obviously we'll get along with our lives just fine and for most of those things we have received refunds, so it's not about the money. It was about the experience, about getting away from the daily grind. We will reschedule most likely, for any of those that do reschedule. For those that don't, they will soon fade from memory as an experience never had, and long forgotten. After all, we're safe and together, so we really have nothing to complain about. We're also, as I've mentioned before, very lucky to still be working from home and working our normal hours and pay.

As Doctor Emmit Brown once said, "Your future isn't written yet, nobody's is. So make it a good one!". I wholeheartedly agree and couldn't have said it better. I think we should all try and strive to live in the moment and for each day. Make plans but be flexible and try not to worry about the past too much, but don't make the mistake of assuming history is not important to see where we're going. So many things! But we can do it, and we can do it better than we are now. I feel a change in the winds these days, the social climate has some new life in it and change is on the horizon. I for one, cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us, I'm excited for the potential.

If I can end this with one word, it will be one that I didn't always embrace and in fact fought hard against some times; although in hindsight I'm not sure why.

Optimism.

Best wishes to all of you and your loved ones. Coronavirus or not, stay safe and be well.
