We are wrapping up week three of being quarantined, social distancing ourselves from others in an attempt to thwart off the Corona Virus of 2020. I cannot help but continuously think about and reference the hit television show LOST that was on ABC for eight seasons. Our homes have become our own island, away from others. To take it a step further, and in my opinion some of the best parts of the series that pertains to, what the characters referred to as "the hatch". The first hatch, we find poor Desmond Hume living down there, unaware that the Dharma Initiative is all but gone. His job is to enter a specific sequence of numbers to "vent" every 108 minutes. I'm sort of feeling like Desmond lately. This working from home thing is boring, I miss going to work.
On the bright side, both Marzz and I are safe. We have shelter, food and each other for company. I know many others do not or they're struggling right now because they're ill, they may have lost their job or any other terrible thing that is occurring right now.
We have been filling out time outside of work with puzzles, video games, watching YouTube, television shows and films via streaming services. We have tried to eat at home as much as we can, both to prevent exposure but also to save some money during this time.
Our future at Warner Bros. seems okay at the moment, but with all of this loss of revenue and expensive overhead, you can't help but wonder how they will resolve this financial problem?
Recently Disney announced that it is furloughing non-union employee's at the parks and resorts. Those employee's have the option to use vacation or sick time to continue receiving an income. They will remain covered for medical and other benefits but once they use all of their paid time off, they will not be receiving any income.
President Trump recently announced financial assistance for small businesses to assist in paying their employee's and that reaches to charitable organizations, some religious groups and more. This is a great package and I hope those who need it will take advantage of it. In addition, I'm sure we've all heard of the economic stimulus package that was passed giving $2.2 trillion in tax credits to the American work force with those earning under $75K per year a check for up to $1,200.00 each. This will help, but with the stay at home order in place for an additional 30 days, there are already talks for an additional stimulus to keep this great nation from economic collapse.
I don't buy into the doom and gloom of the media, but this is still going to be a bad situation. Only time will tell though how bad. Hopefully I will be able to post in a month or two, after we've come out of this situation that things are looking okay, or even good. I, like President Trump prefer to be optimistic during these times. I don't see the upside of being negative or pessimistic. That doesn't seem to help. I think either you are part of the solution or you should shut up and let the adults handle this....but that's only my opinion. This is an unprecedented event on this scale and there is much we, as a nation don't know because we've never done it but we're learning quickly and I believe our federal government and to some degree, even our state governments, but certainly not all of them, are doing the best they can. Together we will prevail.
I encourage those of you who wish to be informed to stay to the facts. Watch the daily Corona Virus Task Force briefings, read your local and state government news from the official government websites only. I know it sounds a bit cliche but stay away from all main stream media, they really are not helpful during this time of crisis. They are still trying to make money, even at the risk of misinformation.
Be safe everyone, take care of yourselves and your loved ones and this will all be over soon. Stay positive and healthy. God bless America.
