Dapper Day - Spring 2018

One of our favorite events at Disneyland is the bi-annual "Dapper Day".

Marzz and I, along with our friend Stacy, attended this year's spring event. It seems each one is larger than the last, and with Disney recently officially backing the event, they are starting to provide many fun opportunities for photo opps (shown above) as well as some merchandise.

For those of you new to this event, it began as a fan organized event. Usually starting online and an arbitrary date would be chosen for anyone who wished to participate could dress up in their most dapper attire and come to the parks. That is still the basic premise, but because of its popularity, Disney has officially recognized it as an event and they have chosen a spring time and fall days for the event and it has grown from a few hundred to a few thousand people.

I've heard different arguments on whether or not the dapper attire should be early to mid 20th century, or modern? My feeling is that it can be any nice clothing you wish but I do find the early 1900's through 1950's attire more appealing personally. I've always liked the idea, when looking upon old photos when it was common place for men to wear a suit or sport coat and women a dress or skirt. It always looks nice and has a quaint, homely feel to it.

As mentioned, this event has grown rather popular. There are thousands who choose to participate and dress up. Social media is a storm about it and sites such as Pinterest and ebay are filled with outfits and accessories to complete your look. We even noticed that some local shops catered to it and were advertising that they carried particular items and outfits.

The majority of people who show up for Dapper Day are there to take pictures around the parks and socialize. Yes, many ride the rides as well, but oddly enough, that becomes second fiddle to taking pictures for most people on this day. Some people bring a change of clothes, so once they're finished taking their pictures, they change and can comfortably ride the attractions. Meanwhile, others are only there for a few short hours in the morning when the whether is cooler and the park has not become crowded just yet.

Our outfits were quite comfortable so we did not change into other clothes. We stayed at the parks for just over 12 hours on this particular day, which is unusual for Marzz and I. Our feet were feeling it, and we all got slightly sun burned because we forgot to bring any sun block, but all in all, we had a great day, we were not too tired or sore and it was a lot of fun being in the parks, seeing other people's outfits. The park feels different when you look around and everyone is dressed to the nines, it's an interesting phenomenon and something to experience if you can, we highly recommend it.
